NERF is a 41 year old toy brand that has established itself in the North American vernacular as the word to use to describe any foam rubber toy.  An overview of the evolution of NERF's products and marketing are presented here, beginning from the original Non-Expandible Rubber Foam (i.e. "NERF") ball in 1970 to the current NERF guns of 2011.
